Ellis Street

A Berkeley backyard becomes a joint foyer to two buildings: beloved Craftsman family home and modern accessory dwelling unit (ADU).
The compound entry is now living room, dining room and game room, in a banana belt climate that seems tropical year-round.
When DELA arrived, one lonely Australian Tree Fern struggled in the corner of a compacted back lot.
We gave it two friends, added a trellis overhung with Coral Seas Passionvine and an array of textured plantings.
Architecture by Berkeley-based Christopher Lee.
